A 1980s York Mills house opened into a double-height gallery living space with a full-height stone hearth.
We removed the second-floor plate over the living room, introduced a steel moment frame, and created a 20-foot volume anchored by a dry-stacked limestone fireplace wall.
A sculptural white-oak staircase, fabricated off-site and craned in through the roof opening, became the house’s defining object.
The rear addition added a glazed breakfast room and covered terrace, extending sight lines into the ravine lot.
